BUTLINS
BOGNOR'S BUBBLY BLONDE
Butlins Bognor 1960 was one place where the phrase:
'I don't like Mundays' was definitely never uttered.
|
My name is Liz Munday,
or was in 1960. I was
a
Redcoat and, after 6 weeks training at Skegness, I opened Bognor Regis
Butlins.
There I met, and later married, Eddie Keene - the resident comedian.

 |
The cowboy is Camp
Comic, Eddie Keene.
With him at the mic' is Dave Butler, who went on
to achieve fame in the TV series "The Comedians."
|
And here is Eddie
Keene burlesquing on
the dance floor with another Redcoat.
|

|

|
When Eddie Keene
put his cap on,
that meant he was in comedy mode.

Eddie giving
everything to his
impersonation of Jimmy Durante
|
We loved every minute
of it, even the
collapse
of the indoor swimming pool. Then, when the campers flushed the
toilets,
the taps in the sink came on. The campers saying that there were no
mattresses
in the chalets.

|
Liz and
Eddie did
sometimes manage to
get together during working hours.

CHOPSTICKS
ANYONE?
The lovely Liz performing 'The
Stick Dance.' aka: "Fantastiks."
|
I learned how to
entertain 4,200 campers,
while
they had their breakfast; to looking after the kids in the Kids Club. I
was
part of Radio Butlin, and did sing-songs in the 'Pig and Whistle' bar.
That
was before the Cabaret spots, the Lancers, the Chopsticks, the Redcoat
Show,
and the Sunday Night Variety Show on the revolving stage. I was 18 at
the
time.

Keeping these 12
lovely ladies in line is singer (and Assistant Manager) Vic Green.
Liz Munday is far right in both photos.
|
I could go on
forever,
but all great
experiences!
Cheers!
Liz Mundy

grateful
to the photographers

and preserved them as windows to the past, and to LIZ MUNDAY for
