BUTLINS AYR 1970

That's me above - ALBERT MOSLEY.
In 1969 I joined the Ayr Entertainments team as a lifeguard during the day, and Redcoat duties in the evenings.
Now, here I am back at BUTLINS AYR for the 1970 season.
It was great to meet up again with some of the Redcoats who I had worked with in '69.
First off was Lifeguard DANNY WEBSTER, with whom I again shared a chalet.

And in 1970, when we'd transformed into colour.

A good new friend was lifeguard Eddie.

[Eddie had just played Captain Blood, but poor Danny, too, got thrown in.]

BINGO, BINGO - I'm in Love

The photo of the Bingo Team has a funny story to go with it.
Whilst working the Bingo the Campers always insisted on buying us drinks, as we were not allowed to drink in front on Campers whilst working. As I did not drink beer then, and still don’t, the campers used to put them on stage just behind the curtain, where they would mount up during the night
So I enlisted the help of stage-hand Charlie Taylor and one other, who would sit at a table behind the curtain and drink the beers. I would then vanish behind the curtain occasionally, to let the campers see I was going for a quick drink, and gave them a thumbs up when back on stage.
All was going well until one day Charlie and friend, became a little too sloshed, and started singing a Scottish song, loud and clear, whilst we were  playing a game of Bingo. It was funny for us, but not for the serious Bingo players amongst the Campers, who were playing for big money, and were none the wiser of what was going on.
Needless to say Charlie and company other were on rations from that day on.
It always make me smile when I think of it.

proving that three can sing just as badly as two.

At the end of Ayr Season 1970 I was asked to go to Barry Island —
again a great team, and returned to Barry for a Christmas season. Great fun - and hard work.

Lucky me! - Two full seasons at AYR plus extended seasons at Filey and Barry.
And it isn't over yet. In 1971 I was back at AYR - and, with a promotion.
