Hey! Hey! Paula
BUTLINS SKEGNESS 1969 and 73-74
|
A familiar voice and,
now, a familiar face. |
Here is another in our series of "FEATURED REDS."
This time around our chosen REDCOAT is PAULA
MANCHESTER, whom I had the pleasure of ......
working with (you thought I was going to say something else then, didn't
you?)
at Skegness during the 1973 and '74 seasons.
Paula had also worked a season at Skegness a few years earlier, and then
later worked at BUTLINS
AYR,
but can't remember the exact years. (She works out dates using weddings and
divorces as markers.)
See photos below, and let us know if you can help.
Everyone on Camp during those seasons
knew what Paula SOUNDED like, but didn't necessarily know
what she LOOKED like, as she was one of the famed RADIO BUTLIN
announcers.

Skegness 1973 Anny, Paula, Dot Daniels |
Skegness 1974 Paula with two new Radio Butlin announcers, whose names she can't remember. Can you help? |
This one was taken in Ayr, and again we need your help to name the other two announcers, AND the year. (1975??) |

Anny, Paula, and Heather dressed |
And here is Paula with some distinctly less
attractive fairies. |

|
The members of the 1973 REDCOAT SHOW, |
Here are a couple of professional entertainers enjoying an after-show drink. Bottom left is Irish Comedian BILLY STUTT, who was in the Resident Revue at the Gaiety theatre. The taller and better looking Jimmy Carr look-alike is Malcolm Anthony, whose Country & Western Band took over on Val Merrall's night off. (Where is he now??) Plus a rare shot of Ents. Man. ALAN RIDGWAY (centre). What a great guy he was. |
|
|
But Paula did get to do duties other than in Radio
Butlin. |
And actually mixing with commoners!! |
|
Here we see Paula (Front
Row - second from left) in an earlier incarnation at Skegness in
1969 |

Left is how Paula looked in 1973, and right is
how she looks now. |
